Cool Hard starting in the morning...

Replaced the Battery
Replaced glow plugs
Adjusted the Valves
Adjusted the Rack Damper bolt...

And the Benz is still hard to start in the morning, even though it was 40 degrees this morning and I have a full tank of dino-diesel. What else do I need to look at?

Is the starter spinning the engine fast enough?

How are the filters?

You might need to describe "hard to start" in more detail.....what are the exact symptoms? Is it consistent at all temps and conditions?

Could be starter - could be air in your fuel...could be lotsa things, I guess.

Starter is spinning the engine as good as ever. I change the filters regularly; I think 3 times in the last 2 years.

Any fuel leaks on the veg or d2 sides or at the primer pump?

Is GP light comming on; relay working?

After that stuff I'd think compression and inj's.

Hard starting: Cranking and cranking, the car hits a couple of times before finally starting up. Sometimes I have to cycle the plugs a couple of times. Then a huge puff of smoke. Then I have to hold the pedal to the floor for 10-15 seconds until the car starts to rev or it will die.

GP light comes on and seems to cycle well.

No fuels leaks that I can see.

Consistent in all temps. I thought it was the cold weather but it's warming up around here and it is still hard to start.

Have you tested your GP's and relay since you worked on them? May be as simple as a another GP or two bad again or the relay.

I agree. Go to www.dieselgiant.com for a great DIY for testing the GP system. Just because the GPs are new doesn't mean they will glow.

have you tested your compression? You may just have poor compression, which will result in the hard starts.

Veg oil. Time to check the injectors for coaking. Also compression.

It does sound like glow plug problem to me. Check for voltage at plug. If there is the n check the resistance at plug to ground. If less than 1 ohm then check for carbon buildup by reaming out the glowplug hole.
