617 turbo

how well will a 617 turbo from an '81 126 fit into a '80 123?

It should fit just fine. There may be some ribs cast into the upper oil pan on the turbo engine that need to be ground down to clear the cross member, other than that it should bolt in.

are you meaning the 617 turbo motor or jsut the turbo? the 80 123 should be a non turbo from the factory.

It will fit but there will be no benefit to it. You won't gain any power and the enigne's life will be reduced.

I was talking about the whole engine in this post, not just the turbo.

Unless the '80 is a 240.
Or maybe that engine has been trashed.

He has an 80 300TD with a 79 engine, both 617.91x engines.

i was speaking of swaping out the whole engine, which is n/a so i think i would gain some power putting a turbo diesel under the hood.... right?

yes

Forced is confused. I believe he thought you were simply adding a turbo.

A complete swap of a 617 turbo into a vehicle that had a 617 n/a engine is a perfect solution for additional horsepower. The life of the engine is unaffected.

Make sure that you swap the whole drivetrain - engine and transmission.

hoborobot69 03-08-2008 12:58 PM

duly noted;)

You will still have a differential with a ratio designed for an NA engine.
