Quick q's about a driveshaft

will a 240d-w123 fit to a 300d-123w? I misaligned mine when i did the flex discs, and now i get bad vibes at speed. BTW, somebody told me that there are alignment marks on the Driveshaft but i cant find them...

Arent they different auto vs stick??

and also what year- the newer ones are marked- my 84 is, but still mark them befor they come apart. I mask off the driveshaft lengthwise w/ cardboard, then spray it w/ spraypaint. gives a huge reference mark that you will not put together wrong.

you can try to pull it apart and re=assemble one notch over- if it gets worse, go back 2 notches, if better, go ahead 1. long and painful.
or even get 2 hose clamps which fit the dia of the shaft. start out w/ the screws on opposite sides, then work them closer together on one side- same thing if it worsens, go back, etc, etc......long and painful

or take it in to get balanced. short and sweet- except on the wallet. but I bet next time ya do it, you will have it marked properly.

Well, I don't think the 240 would be the same length as a 300d shaft. The back of the 300d in a 123 chassis sits about 4" further to the rear.

The rear section of the driveline should all be the same on the W123. It`s the front section that would be longer or shorter depending if the vehicle is a 240D with a manual trans, or auto. or a 300D with 5 cylinder and auto. or 5 cylinder and stick.
The difference in length is the center support and the transmission.

If it's like the 124, at the base of the splines and the end of the socket there are marks, one has 1 raised ridge, the other two, line 'em up.
