tie rod replacement problem

I went to put a tie rod on but when i tried to put the nut back on the bolt. (socket) kept turning. I couldn't get the bolt to tighten up to draw the rod back into place. I got to get back together for work Mon. Any help is appreciated. RAY M

hex key on the back side to keep it in place.

Do you mean at the end of the bolt there is a place to put a hex key to hold it in place while tightening the nut to pull the rod back into place. RAY M

You might look and see if there is a hex recess on the tip of the threaded portion.
If there is one there, you'd need to use a wrench instead of a socket to put it back on, but not too painful an option.

I don't remember having any problem torquing the bolt back onto mine when I had the spindle off, but it's been a bit.

I do hope there is a hex recess on the tip of the threaded portion. I got a socket set that fits into a ratchet with an opening to fit over a long bolt. This would make it easy if it is like that.

Sometimes the ball joint needs to be seated, the pics are from the FSM.
I used an open end wrench that measured 6mm thick, worked like a champ.

pry bar?

I used a pry bar to push the tie rod down into the tapered socket. Once you get a few threads with out it turning you can release the pressure on the pry bar. It worked for me.
