95 3.0 or 92 2.5

Looking to upgrade from my 85 300SD (617) looking at two cars a 95 300 with 220,00 miles with a 3.0 Diesel or a 92 300 with a 2.5 Diesel with 230,00. I do not know much about the newer Diesel engines, anything to look out for, which one is a better car?

'92

I'd heard the '95's have better natural balance of the motor, due to having 6 cylinders, ie, less vibration at idle. But the '92 has a turbo, so it is quicker around town, and I'd heard it has more zip going up hills when the turbo is kicking in.

Does either one have service records? That is the one I would buy.

I have a 93 300 D 2.5 turbo. It idles smoothly like any other car.

The only time i really feel the vibration is when you turn the motor off and it shakes .

This is probably the best car i've ever owned .

Choices...

I agree with Bio300 -- the car that has the best records, fewest owners, etc. is the one to buy. For each car, make a list of stuff that doesn't work or that shows no evidence of having been repaired/replaced/serviced -- shocks and suspension are a prime item to ignore if you're short on cash as some of us are in the year before we sell a car. Suspension problems are easy to hide 'cause they're underneath and out of sight.
