Rumor of 175 mpg diesel 650 HP powered electric engine

A friend told me he saw something about an experimental truck that gave 650 HP, from an electric motor, powered by a small diesel engine, and it got 175 mpg.

Now he probably repeated half the story wrong, but any ideas at this point, are good ideas. ... And here's one from GM....

As says Ted Turner about how ridiculous our current cars are, "We have a 200 pound man, getting into a 4,000 pound vehicle, to go get a 1/4 pound hamburger".

I dis-like getting Torqued Up this early in the Week

Problems:

1.GM product (ENABLEMENT of "Same Old Same Old",enslavement of the
consumer to the existing Petroleum/Coal fired Electrical generation grid.)
2.In the Majority of CONUS cases, the other end of the 110/220 volt line
is the power source:Nasty OLD Coal Fired (SAY, POLLUTION) Generation
Plants.Electric Vehicles as envisioned by G.M. are simply put;Mobile
source point polluters.
3.Etc.,Etc.,Yadda,Yadda,Yadda.

How about a Switch Grass sourced,Bio-Diesel/Electric Hybrid using Honda's
Plasma Converter System for Exhaust pollution control?

No, I'm serious

Guys, an electric engine that gets its power from a small diesel engine is a great start. I say keep alternative power coming!

OK...so you have a diesel motor, generating electricity, to be stored in a storage device (battery, or the like). You push the skinny pedal on the right, get propelled forward with 650 horses pushing/pulling you. Ummm, pushing/pulling for how long?? 10 seconds? 10 mins? Might as well get a huge industrial rubber band, wind it up with the help of a diesel, and when you let it go, you get thrust forward until your momentum peters out a mile down the road. I'm not doing the math, but if the diesel used a 1/4 cup of fuel to wind the rubber band/charge the battery, I bet the mpg, would be up there.

Ok....how about this..... How many btu's does it take to go one mile (theoretically speaking) - say, we are moving 1000lbs (car + passengers) ?

(the reason I ask, is I want to know if 650hp & 175mpg is theoretically possible)
