82 300TD vacuum confusion

I have recently purchased an 82 Mercedes 300TD and after replacing the rear end am now working on fixing the vacuum lines so I can turn it off without popping the hood. Immediately I found several problems but referencing the vacuum diagrams do not seem to match, or perhaps it is just me. Picture one circled white?????

Picture 2 .... What confuses me here is that all the diagrams and pictures I have found have this green (surge dampener vacuum (72) with a T coming out of the top of it. Mine has only one hose. That leads back into the central plug? I think. If the green surge dampener is sitting atop the Fuel injection pump I have a vacuum line that I have penciled in red that heads down then left to a T. It the comes back up attaches to a white clip and is disconnected. (white circle) It has a rubber sleeve with what appears to be a reduced sized plastic end coming out of the other end.

???? Picture 3

????? I hope the pictures help. I have wrestled with this for days but can't seem to find diagrams that match. I would appreciate any help at all and apologize for my ignorance if this is easy, thank you. Picture 4

Picture 1

Hope this helps: In your picture 1 (with the yellow check valve), the brown line goes to the ignition switch (another brown line goes from the ignition switch to the cutoff valve in back of the injection pump). The yellow check valve goes to the central locking system (one line to the driver's door and the
other line from the yellow check valve goes to the vacuum storage tank below
the floor for the rear hatch). The last line goes to the climate control system and this appears to be the one that is missing from the rubber connector (that has all the above). Plug the line that is missing (from the rubber connector) as well any other "open" lines and your TD should cut off immediately (after running a minute or two...to build up vacuum in the tank (below rear hatch...under the car). I just replaced all lines, rubber connectors on my 85 TD;now the car shuts off within 2 seconds.

This is my CD. The highlighted line goes "through" the green damper, and to the transmission. It appears to be a different set up, tho.

Thanks for the help Richard, I am assuming the vacuum line for picture 1 hooks directly into the back of the climate control somewhere? And I am guessing the other line may go to the transmission? I will check it out.

picture 3 that line should attach to the tranny, i believe. does it shift real hard?

also there are some decent post's by Brian Carlton on deleting a lot of the stuff which is involved in the useless EGR sytem, which you may want to consider. it helps eliminate vac leaks, and cleans up the engine bay.

82 300TD Vacuum Confusion

JRay...The fellows above are correct (the "other" line goes to the green check valve and on to the transmission). Yes, the other line where the check valve is does go inside the firewall to the climate control system. I can't remember where, but likely someone will know. You can bypass all the crap on top of the
valve cover (black box with the vacuum lines going into it) by plugging all the lines to and from the black box. On a 84 SD I sold, the black box was leaking causing the transmission to shift hard. Once plugged, the transmission shifted
perfectly. I don't mind helping in anyway because I know the frustration. I have learned the system rather well now! If you would like to chat, email me
and I will be happy to provide my phone #. Good luck. Keep us posted.

Thanks for the help, A little confused by the (other line goes to the green check valve) most diagrams I see have a T coming off of the green check valve. So should I put a T on top of the check valve and run this line into it and install a line from the other side to the tyranny. It seems to me I should just run the existing line to the transmission.

.....
......
OK so here we go again. I was trying to hook up the line previously identified to the transmission and I found a line already hooked in. I thought I had previously read on a post that the vacuum line hookup was on the passenger side of the tranny but this one was on the drivers side. It looks like the same as I have seen in pictures on previous post so I went with it. Vacuum line is in green grommet hidden behind that metal cover in pic 3. So as in picture one the line out of the green surge dampener goes back to the black box on the valve cover. And my transmission vacuum comes from a T off of the box on the valve cover. So here is what I was going to do. (My understanding is that by removing the EGR related vacuum lines allow you to get rid of the black box on the valve cover and all lines to and from.) So I was thinking of just putting a T on the top of the green vacuum dampener the same as vacuum diagrams. Run one line to the transmission and the other to the (brake booster?) I think that is what that is in my diagrams..... In Photo 2 I put red X's on the lines I was going to take off, now I see they don't show up well but their is one on the black valve cover box and one on the EGR. Before I do I this I wanted to double check with the gurus on this forum. What confuses me is the vacuum lines off the thermostat. Those seem important, are those alright to take off ??? I would appreciate some input and perhaps the pictures will help someone other than myself as well.

So since nobody has responded to the above post I am going to dig in. Remove all the EGR lines. Put a T on top of the green surge dampener and so on. Scream at me quick if you feel I am all sorts of wrong. later
