new here have a few questions
 

Hello, new to diesel benz, not diesels, I have several cummins, & a couple ford (internationals) never had a benz & got this one pretty reasonable I thought I might drive it back & forth to work if I can get it to run good. If not I will probably just resell it.

Just bought a 1983 300sd, it has about 350k on it has a terible exhaust leak & misses on 2 cylinders, I bought it this weekend, I cracked the injector lines open today & makes no difference on 1 & 2. there is little pressure at those 2 lines, I will check the compression at first chance to see the mechanical condition. Is there any tests for the pump without taking it off & bench tested? It came with the parts to fix the exhaust. There are some used pumps on ebay cheap, I may get one of those & just try it, probably cheaper than a bench test!!

Pumps dont go bad too often.

Check the basics, then compression, inj pops and patterns and give it a valve adjustment.

if it's 1 and 2, try putting those injectors on 3 and 4 and see if the problem moves... could just be bad injectors.

Yes I had thought about that & what about a blown head gasket between those 2???

A blown head gasket is possible.
The valve clearances on these engines get tighter and tighter as the valves wear. I would do a vlave adjustment before I do a compression test. The company Harbor Freight sells an inexpensive compression tester; they may have a local store and are also in the internet.
