1978 240D slave cylinder leak(MacGyver fix?)
hello all!
my 240's slave cylinder is leaking where it connects at the bell housing. i've searched all over the internet looking for just a gasket with no luck. a buddy told me i'd just have to replace the whole cylinder with a new/rebuilt unit. is this true or is there a "MacGyver" fix for this problem? **a little history- i bought this car over a year ago on craigslist for $500. i've made it a personal mission to do repairs as cheap as possible! not because i don't have the money, but for simple bragging rights and as a testiment of the durability, reliability, and ease (to work on) these cars-specificly W123. the only real money i've put into this thing is in the stereo and speakers!** thank you for your time!

Second that. If you got to pull it to fix it then fix it right for the few $$ involved.

A gasket is not what you need. The "gasket" is not really a gasket, huh, dont know what you call it but it has a"slot' in it too check the wear on the clutch disc. Get a replacement slave from the "parts" dept of this forum, good price and fast delivery.

Lol..Well, McIvor this probably wont be your last chance to fix something on your car, a seat for example would be more forgiving than a clutch system

All you needed to do was search here:
http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=215891 As stated above, the "gasket" is more like a spacer with the openings provided as mentioned. Your leak is within the diaphram of the slave cylinder. They are not expensive so rebuilding one wouldn't really be that prudent. See the link above as I just did this last weekend. Not a hard job at all......
