Oil in Central Lock Vacuum Line

Hello.

My central locking system for my 84 300 D stopped working a couple months ago. My mechanic told me oil spitting from a leaky gasket in the engine got into the vacuum line. Could this be a reason as to why it failed?
Just want to get another opinion before I start DIY-ing it using all the vacuum lock failure threads/info here (I just didn't find anything about the line being clogged-- leaks, yes. but not obstructions). I'd hate to take off the door panel only to find that yes, oil can screw it up.

Thanks
