Question: OM617 Vs OM603 spare parts interchange

Hey guys,

I am just wondering if the cache of parts I have for the 617 would fit on a 603. Things like oil filters, primary and seconday fuel filters, injector return hoses, etc. Would these interchange or do I hold a fire sale?

I am assuming that motor mounts and engine shocks would NOT interchange. Am I right?

Thanks,

Joe

Oil filter? No.

Fuel filters? No.

IP line? Yes.

Motor mounts? Depends on chassis.

Thanks!

Chassis are both W126 300 SD/SDL so the mounts would swap between them? I am asking because the SDL I am looking to buy will probably need mounts and I had an extra set for the SD. I had orderd a full set of mounts and shocks then lost a mount in NYC and had to run to the dealer to get them quick. I could not drive it with the engine banging around!

I will check my stash of 617 parts and make a list for 'fire sale'

Mounts work. I just dont' recall on shocks, I took them off my SD when I did motor mounts... going from Klaus to the SDL (Karl) is pretty striking in smoothness at idle.

Spin-on fuel filter maybe not, there's no reason the in-line wouldn't work. It's just a plastic filter with a gazinta hose connection and a gazouta hose connection, after all. Nothing model-specific about those.

Spin ons are different as are the inlines. The inline on one is straight in and out, the other has a 90 degree bend. Look up the parts...or take my word since I own both.

I'll take your word... but don't they do the same thing?

Yes, but proper fit is another issue.

While I have not had a OM603 W126, I have or had OM617s in both W126 and W123, and W124 OM603 cars in both wagon and sedan.

IIRC, the OM603 mount looks nothing like the OM617. OM603 is a silicon filled cannister, OM617 looks like the diesel/gas W114/W115 series.

Spin on is defintly different, but I actually prefer using the 603 SDL inline ones on all the diesels, for some reason those come clear from my distributor and the rest when I order them (say for a 123 300D) they send the opaque ones.

Correct, W124 have the single silicone mount like the W140s. SDL does not, it has the same style as SD... infact all are the same minus the 300SE/L... for W126
