the best way to drive these cars is to utilize the torque that they produce for good mileage. what i like to do is match the rpm of the speed i am going to go while i am accelerating. for example, if i know i am going to be accelerating to 60 mph, i keep it at 2600 RPM through all the gears that way my foot pretty much stays in one place. there is really no need to ever break 3000 rpm in these turbocharged cars.

also when there are slight hills and nobody behind you to get pissed off, try keeping it at the same rpm and you might lose 5 mph at the most for no more than a few seconds depending on the size of the hill

2600rpm? I shift at 2000rpm unless I'm on a hill.

they really can.

What I do:
*Coast when I can.
*Take my foot off the gas long before I need to brake. Allow the car to slow itself.
*Don't floor it from a stop. I know it's already slow, but those behind you can wait the extra 5 seconds it takes to go 25 mph without flooring it.
*Stay at speed limit. No more 70-75 mph. Leave 5 minutes early so you're not in a hurry to get places.
*Fill the tank at the half way point instead of allowing it to go to empty.
*Use an injector cleaner when needed.
*Do a purge to get the gunk out that's there now.
*Check for any fuel leaks in the lines and around the injectors.
*Check tire pressure and keep it at optimum.

And don't expect the car to get 30mpg.
I get close to 30 mpg somewhere in the 28-29 mpg range it's not unheard of
