Swap it over 1 wire at a time or label each wire before/as you take it off.

I can figure out the wiring; this sounds dumb, but, how do you remove the switch from the dash panel, I pulled the knob off and I see a large hex nut...is it self explanitory after the nut?? Thanks

Should be. Drop the knee panel, remove the nut and it pushes back and falls out for you.

And the wiring plugs in.

Be sure that you're buying another switch from a '91 or newer, there is a difference, I have both on the shelf and they are NOT the same plug or switch.
