As another thought, is there any difference between the early and late doors? I know the plastic changed, but fundamentally, isn't the metal the same?

Yep.

I believe the early and late driver's door is identical.

We have a couple W126's in the yards by me....in case you're in need of a door. One of them is a SEL and one is a SE....they both have a bit of rust but not much (just a bit on the inside lower area)
I can only hope that it will be a few years before either of my daughters performs damage to "our" W126. BTW, my daughters are 9 and 4.

My sister drives our minivan, so she can't really damage our W126's as she doesn't touch them, and they're not parked near where she parks either. She's been driving about 7 months on her own w/out any accidents/issues so she's doing pretty good. And its been a very snowy winter....then again she's only driven about 1,200 miles in the past 7 months. She doesn't go very many places.

Anyone need a w126 door???

Anyone need a black door? I know my wife won't let me store extra doors and I know where there is a donor car just waiting to give up her doors. I might use one or two of them as Coda has some rust (bottom side) on driver's side doors.

A rear door weighs probably about 65-70lbs without the interior panel and window regulator/motor. So the front is probably another 10-13 pounds....maybe 85?

No, you don't have to do that, but thanks for the offer.

It's just that I found a correct paint coded (same color as my door) in Fresno, Ca for $100 but for them to box it and ship to Iowa is over $600.

I think I'll just have the body shop do the repair for the $2,000 quoted.
They will spray the whole left side of the car to blend in the used door
that they have found.

It doesn't even cost $600 to ship an engine or transmission, someone was scam-quoting you on that shipping!

There's a nice creme-colored SDL door in the yard by me too....

um, I will get you a door for free and ship it to you for $300
I could also look for a perfect door, and strip it down for you and get you a fair estimate on shipping, and the door if you like.
what color are you looking for?

What color do you need?

I know of at least 4 w126 waiting to donate doors. And I'm just hoping one of them does not end up on my car.
