Turbo question

I'm wondering if there's any reason I can't remove the rear flexible joint on the back side of my turbo. It would help with room. The first foot of exhaust will be bolted rigid to the engine anyway, with a flexible braided hose below it leading to the rest of the exhaust. Will I cause any problems if I remove this part?

Thanks for any advice.

jim

The pipe has to be supported, there can't be any weight on the turbo.

I was thinking about removing that flex joint and building a 90-deg. elbow straight off the turbo. I would weld on a bracket to the elbow that would bolt to the manifold where the flex joint does now. I would also support the head-pipe just below the elbow. Think I'll be ok?

For what it's worth, my 89 Dodge-Cummins does not have a flex joint, it's a solid pipe.

Great! Thanks for all your help. I thought I could do that but just wanted to make sure.

Thanks again!

Damn you do good work. If I win the lottery I'm going to have to have you do the diesel conversion on my 63 t-bird .
