Current Diesel Prices

Diesel is running from $3.71 to (just saw it today) $3.90 a gallon in my area. It appears that diesel owners are being "punished" and I have read that Independent truckers are losing money everyday on long hauls. This will have the net effect of running the independent truckers out of business. Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen seem to be the only two car companies that are committed to diesel technology. From the few Dodge Cummins, Ford PowerStroke and Chevrolet Duramax drivers' I have spoken with, this $3.90/gallon diesel is KILLING them. anyone have any diesel price updates for where you live?

there at last count are 12 diesel price threads now on the board... it may be best to just look for those and peruse the replies... 4.80 was the highest I have seen... not locally though.

I think there are quite a few European manufacturers who are very commited to diesel technology. The US market just does not seem to be overly accepting of it. I read somewhere (on this forum I believe) recently that BMW sells a lot of diesel models in Europe.

As far as the truckers go, they have fuel surcharges to help cover the rapid price increases.

When you figure how much worse mpg's a comparitive V8 or V10 etc...gasser pickup gets vs. the diesel.....its not hurting them anymore than having a gasser truck would.

Yikes another Diesel price thread. They are getting as common as oil threads! Seriously, where can you get fuel for under 4 bucks? Anywhere East of the Mississippi would be worth the drive.

When hauling my 9500# bulldozer, the PSD gets about 9 mpg so $4 fuel is killing me.

The market won't bear much more than $70/hr for 40hp dozer work so raising my hourly rate price

personally, I am ready to get a bicycle...good for the heart, zero carbon footprint. I suggest purchasing stock in an oil company...you will not lose! America loves OIL!!! speaking of which...here is a link to a pertinent comment.....turn up your computer speakers....

Supposedly a "Towing Equipped" Dually Sprinter has a towing capacity of just over 12,000lbs with a 4.10 rear end. Think that'd get better mileage pulling your dozer?

Except for the smelting and production of said bicycle and the release of CO2 from your respiratory system.

It takes a lot less smelting to make a bike than it does a car

Especially if you are as out of shape as I am. I just dropped of my POS jeep at a local shop (POS exhaust system is falling off) and rode my bike home (maybe 5 miles), plenty of CO2 released.

I hope that was mostly downhill given your location

I live in the flat-land (near denver), the mountains are 50 miles away. No excuses, I'm just out of shape.

The DH and I are cyclists.
He works about 15 miles from home (Kipling/Belleview to DTC for those in the area) and he bikes home a few times a week now that the snow is less and the air is warmer. When the spring comes he will bike to and from unless he has a big meeting that requires a suit. He takes his clothes to change into after the ride, but suits pakced in a panier don't look too good.

I've been driving the greasecar back and forth to the bar (I'm in Littleton, bar is in Louisville) and it's a 70 mile RT. I go there 5 times a week. In the last 1400 miles we've used 9 gallons of diesel. The rest has been hot grease (two tank system) so right now we're getting about 155 miles per gallon of D. 3 tanks (13 gallon) of grease.

It's 3.85/gal at the place I fill up now.
