New Style Primer Pump

So ************** is saying that the new style primer pumps don't work with biodiesel or grease. I can see how they wouldn't work with biodiesel since it'd eat away at it, but it should work with grease, shouldn't it?

My new style has been working with WVO for 2 years now with 0 problems. I have the Mercedes Source kits in my 300SD and wish I had gone with a Frybrid system for just a couple hundred dollars more. The switch over valve are much better and it heats the oil much better. Kent's system seems to nickle and dime you i.e. you need this and then you need this and this and this. Frybrid's system is just that a system. I had a problem with the Pollack Valves from Mercedes Source and he wouldn't warranty them his comment was take it back to NAPA which is where he bought them, however NAPA wanted a sales slip. Mercedes Source wants you to buy your fuel filters from them and does not have a cross reference to any other mfg's products. I spent some time on the internet and came up with a list of about 70 other mfg's filters. I could go on and on about the disapointment in dealing with Mercedes Source but why just check out Frybrid. www.frybrid.com

Yeah, I'm not looking to buy any of their WVO kits, frankly I think they're a bit junk from looking at them. I don't think it's a good idea to tax the alternator on one of these things to heat up the oil. I'm just planning on cutting diesel in half with some high quality canola oil I've been getting my hands on lately. I don't see how the grease could possibly screw up the primer pump, but I just wanted some second opinions.

Oh, and also, other than their WVO kits, I think mercedes source is a pretty good place to get parts. I bought a trailing arm for them for a solid $2k under the next cheapest I could find.

Has anyone had problems with just mixing in clean, new or old veggie oil right into the tank with diesel ?

Mixing like that, you have to be careful of wax in cooler temps.

I'm quite surprised you found something at a discount w/mercedes source. I paid $20 plus ripped of on Prioity mail shipping/handling for the hard line between the intake banjo bolt and the turbo switchover valve. I got a free one from work to go to the ALDA from the switchover valve. Only bad thing is that it is blue, but it is not brittle. I'll get another white one from McMaster-Carr.

Thats because **************s are a bunch of scammers. The new style primer will work fine.

I understand that biodiesel is corrosive to rubber, and the new style pumps can fail sooner.
I've also read that they are just fine.
My thinking is Msource has a supply of the old style, and they are trying to scare you into reducing their inventory.

Five years of using the new style primer pump with biodiesel, and no problems.

Yeah, I would be concerned but the oil I'm getting is canola (the best VO to use) and it's near virgin. I've done some mixing tests at colder temperatures (fridge and freezer) and haven't had wax fallout, so I'm going to go ahead and do it in the main tank once the temperatures are a bit more agreeable.

Or possibly they're wary of having customers complaining of faulty equipment when not using approved fuels. Most places are overly cautious with alt. fuels when it comes to diesels, hence the whole voiding warranty thing with new cars.

Maybe, folks do have to cover themselves, yet I buy from him only if I can't find it anywhere else.

put it this way..at $20 the primer pump is the cheapest thing that will fail due to experimental fuels.

Well put.
You may want to replace the rubber lines with viton.

No corrosive properties with WVO, or SVO that I'm aware of. The home brew for BIODIESEL has lye in the mix, may have something to do with it, but you can pump it straight into your existing tank.
