Transmission Issues

I have a 1981 300SD W126 that needs a new transmission due to extreme slippage. I dropped the trans and when replacing the rebuilt one that I got from a close friend I noticed that the hardware that links from the SD to the speedo sensor is electronic. The replacement trans has a female mechanical speedo sensor. from the SD to the new trans it is not compatable. I noticed that the housing can be taken apart from the back where the drive comes out of the trans and meets the flex disk. My question is; Can I take off that housing and swap it for the old one on the other old trans.....or is there something more complicated mechanicaly inside to prohibit me from doing this? Do I need an SD trans with electronic speedo sensor or and swap it for a mechanical speedo sensor? thanks
-Stephen

Not quite sure but I know that tranny came from a 123 or a 116 not a 126. I was under the impression that the SD picked up speed from the diff not trans.

yep yep

yeah i kinda figured the "new" trans came from and older chasis. the electronic component has two wires going to it and plugs into a female inlet at the rear end of the trans just before the drive comes out of the trans. with the new trans it is a female inlet but has a reciever for a mechanical speedo sensor like in the W123s
