74-76 240D Engine into W110 200D Finny?
I have the opportunity to buy a 1967 200D which had about $10,000 in restoration, including a brand new interior, paint, from bow to stern....the engine seized up (low oil...duh) and so it's a "dead" car yet a really nice one.
I am considering having an engine from a W115 1974-76 240D OM616.916 put in.....wouldn't that be a direct swap? The linkages, IP shutoff, mounting, oil filter housing, and 4 speed manual should all match perfectly right? |

I'm pretty sure the tranny in the 67 uses a direct shifter instead of rods.
There is no real reason it won't work. The OM621 is very close to the OM615/6 and I bet swapping it would be mostly a bolt-in process. Personally, I'd go for the 72hp 81+ OM616 and relocate the oil filter. |

I hope so for your sake! That would be a beautiful ride. I've never done this, so I can't advise you here, but if I could get this car for a good price I'd go for it. Even if you had to wait for a 200D engine from a donor you could rebuild it would be worth it. How Much?

A 200D from a finny looks just like a 220D engine from a W115. A 220D engine from a W115 looks just like a 240D engine from a W115.
Same oil filter position, glow arrangement, manual idle control, starter system, etc. Trans is different. Internal rail shift on finny, external linkage on W115. Bolt pattern is the same IIRC. Jim

my 62 190c had shift rods. I know because one fell off on the highway once and I drove it for a few hundred miles with only fourth gear available.
If this car has a floor shifter it might be different. Tom W

The cost is negotiable at this point....well worth it if the engine is a direct replacement. The rust has been stopped and repaired as the owner sunk a lot of money into that aspect of the car along with new paint too.
I would rather not have to relocate the oil filter since it would require some custom work which I simply can't do. The car has a floor shifter 4 speed manual but that wouldn't make a difference if the OM616.916 fits in the engine bay exactly where the OM615 fits wouldn't it? Quote:
