************** valve stem replacement kit

Anyone who has been to **************.com knows that they sell all sorts of nice parts for our Benz's. They sell a valve stem replacement kit that claims you don't have to remove the cam or the valve springs to replace them. Anyone have any experience with this kit and if so how involved is it? You would think that they would be hard to get off with the valve spring in the way.

nice shout out from our local BBB enforcement officer.

On a related subject, does anyone know if there are special mercedes valve stems that were used. Just had 4 new tires mounted a local tire shop and they had to re-use my old valve stems because according to them they didn't have a replacement valve that would work and so now my new tires leak down like the old ones used to. Never heard this with any of my other mercedes. The car is a 1983 240D. (with chrome skull valve stem caps)

They should take normal stems. I had mine replaced when I got new tires last year at Discount Tires. If they have what works then most any place should.

... I don't know about MSS being a con, but they are a rip off... a nicely worded simply described, overpriced source for cheap knock off parts for mb...

if they are claiming that you can remove the intake/exhaust valve stem seals without removing the springs then I think they are insane... well, technically, the springs could stay in place, but the retainers would have to go...

Oh duh I just re-read the original post, more slowly. Those kind of valve stems. Still on my first cup of coffee.

I have bought a few things from them with good results but there are cheaper places around. The good thing with them is there stuff comes with directions most of the time.

The direction I got from them on the banjo bolt boost line was a copy of a copy of a copy, and so one. $22 for a bajo bolt and hard line. I can get the hard line at a local hardware store for 15 cents a foot. So, MSS is a con, a ripoff, or whatever else means bad for the consumer IMHO.

for what it's worth...
i did buy their valve stem seal replacement kit and just did the job last weekend...
their "tool" was helpful, and while it is something i could have pieced together myself i didn't find it ridiculously overpriced for what it was...as a whole they are pricier than a lot of other options...
but about the kit: if you haven't done it before his instructions were helpful (nothing fancy, and yes they are just copies, but still useful), they are basically a re-wording of the fsm instructions, but with easier to understand language and pictures (for me anyways). in the instructions (as well as the job itself) you definitely remove the valve springs and the rocker arms, however you don't remove the camshaft...it's not too difficult of a job, a little time consuming if it's the first time...

This is the first time I have gone to the 7 post before I was sure what the subject was....

So is this just another version of the offset hand press for pushing down the valve stem seals to the proper distance ? Like the one in the FSM which is offset so that the cam does not have to be removed ?
