240D shock install?
 

I recently installed new front Bilstein shocks and now have observed a problem. I installed the new components exactly as the old ones came out but had an extra set of the large rubber grommet style washers that install on the top of the shock under the hood. Everything seemed to go together perfectly but after driving the car there seems to be an extra 1/2 inch of screw stud coming out on the top shaft where it attaches on the fender well under the hood. There is not enough screw threads to further tighten the rubber washer down. Was the extra set of rubber washers meant to go on the underside of the of the fender well on top of the rubber shaft boot.

I think the answer is yes. There should be a fat rubber washer under the fender and on top of the fender.

Did you have the car up on a jack? When i did the rear shocks last week on my 240d i couldnt get the top rubber piece on until i lowered the wheel back on the ground. This is after i bolted down the bottom.

I had the car on stands and used a jack to support the arm that the shock was attached to while working on it. I never had a problem installing the top rubber washer.

Yes, as I had confirmed to me today by a factory trained MB tech. What a coincidence on the timing! One on the bottom and one on the top. I just went through this on my 240.
