one of those days

Friday I noted a strong diesel smell in my back seat area. I attributed this to maybe a torn filler neck guard. So I left it alone. Well, I pull up to work today and notice a big puddle of liquid by my right rear tire and its dripping... I touch it and then sniff it and its diesel.. I'm like.. shiiiizzzzz. I open the filler door and the cap is not even losed.. I could have sworn I turned and locked it when I filled up.

I then noticed the entire right rear quarter panel drenched in diesel.. great... just frign great. I wiped it down as best as I could. a few hours later it down poured and has been for the whole night.

I've been having memory issue things for a while now.. I keep leaving my keys in my car at home or leaving the parking lights on overnight or stupid stuff like that..

Been there, do that. Lucky for me I had some one flag me down to tell me about how much fuel I lost after a fresh fill up...still sucks though, and the high prices add insult to injury. Sorry about the troubles dude.

You're just taking on too much too fast, gotta merge into the slow lane and relax a bit, lol. Tell you what, I'd take a loose filler cap any day over a leaking tank, much easier to repair. (If you've ever tried to torch weld a gasoline tank seam, it gets to be quite entertaining.....even when you fill it with water first.) Gotta love those early 70's Chevy trucks with the in-cab fuel tanks....

Your kind of young for it, but I think you are on your way .

yeah I was looking all over for my keys today, found them in the dirty laundry in a pair of Levis.

I've put my cap on wrong before where one of the lock tabs missed the inside of the cap and stayed on the outside instead, so it spilled diesel all over my car. I probably lost over a gallon. Thankfully the tank was not that full (barely half) so my loss was minimal. From that point on I have been excessively anal making sure my cap is securely closed. Stuff like that happens to everyone...

That's nothing compared to the day I had on March 18. This was the morning of my Texas roadtrip.

8:00 am. I back out of my driveway only to plow into the full garbage can.
8:45 ish My oil cooler hose falls off on the turnpike. Caught it in time, but stranded with oil all over my new paint.
9:30 Tow truck arrives, his lift is broken, calls another truck
10:00 Second tow truck arrives, not a toploader, but old school style.
1:00 Back on the road, oil mess cleaned up and hose replaced by the same dangerous bubble gum method. My X5 was out of commission after a recent $2,000 leaky intake, leaving pools of coolant wherever I went, and other bits found at my recent inspection getting repaired.

The rest of the day I'm can't remeber time, but it got worse. I'm so nervous that I'm checking my oil pressure gauge constantly for the next 9 hours.

As I cross the Oklahoma border, it begins to rain and NEVER STOPS until I arrive at my destination in Austin Texas! I'm not kidding, the wipers never turned off for 7 hours.

Texas people could not drive in the rain, slamming on the brakes when hydroplaining. Cars are flying off the road regularly, the climax was in DFW when a heavy duty steel table was dumped on the highway in my lane, forcing a high speed evasion.

Diesel fuel at truck stations. I couldn't get the damn things to pump slow enough, so I had to stand there holding the pump in the pouring horizontal rain.

I think the stress aged me 5 years on that one day. So much for a vacation. Thankfully, the rest of the week proved uneventful and relaxing.

At least I remebered my gascap.

At least you didn't forget to remove the pump nozzle and drive away with it still attached to your car

Tyler,
I had an uncle down in GeorgeWest Texas that was on his roof doing some repair... old fashioned corrogated tin.... he slid off of it leaving fingernail marks as he went. He was not hurt. Ten years later his hammer and bag of nails were still up there.
When you backed over the garbage can you should have pulled back into the driveway and unloaded the car.
PS. He was a mechanic.
