can I use this as fuel?
http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigate.do?dest=5&item=186931
I have a large container of 'frying oil' in the basement and was wondering if it's safe to use for fuel. On the container it also advertises other types of oils they sell, one of which is vegetable oil so I would assume frying oil isn't veggie oil. Ideas? |

I've used it with no problems although I have a two tank system.

Cut it with regular diesel and burn it.

I run Costco virgin veg to offset a few bucks per tank. My only comment is if you run a high percentage (>60%) I noticed a performance impact as the fuel pump couldn't keep up with the thicker veg. Two 35 gallon jugs to a tank worked well for me. It saved me about $20 a month, not much but enough to give it a shot.

What's that???

You poured the SVO directly into the fuel tank? No special tank needed? Someone told me that you can pour WVO, so long as it's filtered and not 40 degrees outside, directly into your fuel tank. Jeff |

The best way to use it is to convert it to actual BioDiesel and pay the applicable taxes on it. |

A couple of years ago, I tried a few gallons of oil. The thing I noticed most, is that the motor became quieter, and it idled smoother. I think I put in 2 gals of oil per tank, and ran maybe a total of 6 gals through it - after that, I thought it was too cold out, and I never got back into that habit again.

That is because it burns slower. Retarding the injection timing will do the same thing.

I ran three cubies of that stuff a couple summers ago. I put 1/2 gal of Regular gas to 5 gallons of the clear fry oil. So overall it was about 13 gallons of fry oil + 1.5 gallons of regular gas + probably 3-4 gallons of diesel that was still in the tank. Ran smooooooth and quiet. Exhaust smelled way more interesting. Started up faster too on cold starts.
It will burn just fine, however, its probably not good to run it long-term. At its current price around here though...which works out to $5.09 a gallon, its surely not cost effective anymore. Back when I did it the cost was about $3.02 a gallon! Prices have gone up!!

I think 35-POUND jugs is what RG2098 is talking about. That's a little less than 5 gallons per jug, or "cubee" as we WVO habitues call them. I'm running my '99 E300, and two '80 300 TDs, on settled and filtered used cooking oil with 10 % RUG (regular unleaded gasoline) in central California. It hasn't ruined anything yet... Steve

I have been running veggie for years now with no modifications to the old merces benz om617 engines. I do add some regular unleaded gas to the oil when it gets cold. I have had no problems. Except a few clogged fuel filters. Have Fun! RichC .

WVO is bad for your car all the way around, hard on rubber parts and is hard on even the metal. nitro glycerin inside of it is what causes your pump to deteriorate. Read up on a few of these diesels and youll see what im speaking of. Bio diesel is the only way to go, and even that you gota be carefull to get some good quality fuel.
