Oil or grease on drivers side rear passenger floorboard?

Sorry, I mentioned this in another post as well, but, this is kind of a separate issue to my floorboard rust.

1984 300TD. Lifted the rear drivers side passenger floor mat and found some oily greasy substance covering the floor pan. Doesn't smell like motor oil. Any idea where this could be coming from?

On the bright side, this grease has coated the pan nicely so the rust isn't as bad on that side

Could it be antifreeze? I've read about coolant leaking into the car near the console. I'd take out all the carpets on that side and see if there is any evidence of it draining back from the front. The rear floor boards are the low point and ANY liquid will collect back there, even from windshield leaks.

Was there any evidence of the oil on top of the carpets? Maybe the PO had a bottle of something leak out back there.

Chad, actually, I think the hose for the rear washer nozzle runs on that side... could washer fluid have a greasy texture since it has some anti-freeze in it? Maybe that hose is leaking...

Is it clear or dark oil substance? Try a white paper towel to get the exact color.

It's kind of hard to tell since it seems to have been there for a while... seems to have taken on the color of the dirt that has mixed into it if it wasn't black already...

The PO may have had a spill, and did not remove the mats to clean the floor pan.

I don't think there are any hoses from the front bottle to the rear window. In my wagon, the rear washer has a bottle for fluid located in the first aid kit door area.
