Amount of ATF if not doing TC drain

After a filter change, how much ATF should be added back to the car if I'm not draining the torque converter?

Thanks

with draining the TC mine took about 7 I think. Why not drain it while your doining it, pretty simple. You can turn it with a big flat head to find the drain hole.

Changing the oil and filter is a waste of time if you don't drain the torque converter. All you need to do is find the plug, unscrew it with an allen key and put the plug back in when its done draining.

You really ought to drain the TC fluid.... it just is not that hard when you are already down there close enough to take off the pan anyway....
What is it that made you think you did not want / need to change it ?

What is method of finding fluid level

I just replaced my trans filter, and drained the TD. I put in 6.5 qts, warmed up engine, drove the car put in park, checked fluid. It read 2in over the fill mark. Lifted car back up, drained off 1/4 qt, warmed up engine, now the fluid level is HIGHER than my previous reading. What gives.

I did mine that way when I had first bought the car just to get it changed(no svc records). It only took 1 or 2 qts to refill it. Just add 1/2 qt. at a time and warm up the trans and check several times before you add more. It's a pain to get it right.

Hey, best of luck with the transmission fluid change. I just did mine last week. Draining the transmission fluid pan itself should give you a little over 3 quarts or so. I did both that and the TC and the same amount of fluid came out of each. I have to echo everyone's comments though, the TC is very easy to drain as well, if you're willing to put in the extra half hour or so to let it drain thoroughly. Just my two cents worth one!

Either go one way or the other... go see a movie instead of messing with your transmission at all ...or change all of it out...
doing " IN BETWEEN" drives us here on the forum crazy... you can see that we are having trouble dealing with it...
