Behr/Hella Receiver/Drier: Made in China
Received my Receiver/Drier and Expansion valve from ********az... Opening the R/D box I noticed that the corrugated cardboard was the junky/light grey kind that stuff from China comes in... The Behr R/D was labeled made in China. I'm sort of nervous using a Chinese R/D with an expensive freon 12 charge, maybe the quality is so low that it will leak out. Has anyone used a "Made in China" Behr Receiver/drier with any difficulties? I thought I would receive the "Made in Japan" one as in the picture, but no luck. I might try to have ******** take it back in exchange for one made somewhere else. I use some tools that are made in China, but parts?

I used a "Made in China" drier on my son's Honda Accord.
The drier was fine, but the o-ring that was included was cheap and was too thin to fill the rim under the pressure switch. As a result, I lost my R134 charge... Once I found a thicker o-ring and re-charged it, all was fine! Your concerns are warranted, but if everything fits right, it will probably be fine!

Shoot, it looks like I can get a new Germany OEM R/D on eBay for $3 more than ********. It has the MB part number on it, looks like the OEM MB one in my car now. I wrote ******** about the R/D and hopefully I can send this one back or they can send me one not made in China. The part just looks shoddy compared to my OEM MB one and I don't trust it. Too expensive of a system to use cheap parts.

I would NOT use any "Made in China" piece of crap part. Order the original Mercedes Benz part. They are still being made and are available!

The less Chinese junk we buy and the more german/american/european stuff we buy, the more factories that go out of business in China. I'd NEVER use a chinese part on my car. Nooo way.

I have been going out of my way to avoid Chinese crap for the last 10 years! Now, sometimes "Made in China" is all there is. Too bad! When did we get so lazy we don't want to work "dirty" jobs anymore? Those were the days when we MADE stuff!

Amazingly.....Germany has actually managed to maintain a healthy EXPORT level that exceeds their imports! Its all because they are so conscious of where things are made and what they buy. They will more than gladly pay more for something made in Germany. They mean it too, they did in fact run WalMart out of the country by not shopping there! WalMart had to close all their locations in Germany and lost something like one BILLION dollars. Awesome. Here's a great article on it: http://www.dw-world.de/dw/article/0,2144,2112746,00.html

It's just as bad over here in Europe.
For years everyone has been cheerfully exporting all our jobs by buying cheap Chinese goods, the only purchasing criteria being 'Which is the cheapest?' Well finally people are starting to wake up, the social, financial, environmental and moral costs of buying cheap Chinese goods are now too much to ignore. I haven't knowingly bought Chinese goods for over 10 years now, I don't want a new cd player/tv/etc etc.. every year or two, the environmental cost of doing that are horrendous. Call me old fashioned, but I want one built to last in a British or American factory, where the money is put back into our economies, not the bank accounts of a society that disagrees with the way we structure our society. Every $ or £ spent on Chinese crap is a wasted $ or £ Rant over, I will get off my soapbox now

Yeah, I don't like to think about it, but I'm going to put a large sign on the back of my cars showing the National Debt numbers and follow it with "because Made in China has become a way of life". Do you think anyone will get it?

From ********:
China is currently the fastest growing automotive market and many European auto parts manufacturers have invested heavily into production in China. Although the news has reported many quality problems with goods manufactured in China, Behr is an ISO compliant company. In order to maintain that status, all of their products must meet the same standards. I know Behr has been manufacturing receiver driers in China for many years and we've been selling them with negligible problems. However, if you don't feel comfortable using this part we would be happy to accept it as a return. I've provided the instructions to request a return authorization number below for your convenience. We don't carry an OEM receiver drier for your specific model, however most of the OEM Mercedes receiver driers that we carry for other models are made by Hansa. For those models, Hansa receiver driers are typically three times the cost of the Behr units, so I would suggest verifying that the OEM version you found on Ebay is as advertised before purchasing it. Well, they are standing behind their product. Sure, harbor freight crap is ISO certified but that doesn't mean it wont fall apart. I might return it and go buy one somewhere else but it's probably not worth the effort.
