Pull out enough fluid so you can install two cans of Trans-x... and follow the directions on the can... run it a week or so then change out the fluid and filter.. including torque converter.... then see if you still have the problem...

When's the last.....

When's the last time you changed fluid? And what color is it currently? I change mine every 30,000 miles, and turns out, it's a good thing I do. The last batch of it was getting dark red, which is bad. Got all that out, and popped in some new fluid, car runs fine, as it did before. Changed the filter, etc. out as well.

If you're having problems, might want to take it to a shop before bigger problems crop up. Personally, I would avoid the place that starts with Aa. If you don't have problems when you go in, you will by the time you leave. Ask around if you need, or better yet, go to a MB specialist, they will likely be worth it for this.

You might try (experimentally) pulling off the vacuum line that goes to the modulator and see if that effects shift behavior at all. If you get all firm shifts you might investigate the vacuum components as they relate to the tranny.
