interchanging a w123 diesel 3l into a w124

how are you all, I know this sounds crazy but I want to put a 3l 5 cylinder diesel into a w124 replacing the original 230 petrol 4 cylinder, I am wondering if it would bolt up to the w124 gearbox.

years ago i have put a 200d engine into a w114 petrol 6 cylinder and it bolted straight up all I had to worry about was the start/stop setup.

can anyone give me some ideas?

You'll need the trans too. It's been done.

The one I had seen was on ebay- Dunno what they did about the driveshaft, as for the engine, it's not going to take much for it to run in that car, linkages may be a little troublesome but I dont see much problem with it.

You'll just have to look at the driveshaft. If it won't bolt up you may have to have a front driveshaft made up with the 123 front and the 124 rear. Same for the shift linkages. Threre are some little differences such as the oil pressure guage is mechanical on the 123 and electric on the 124. Other things as well, I am sure.

Good luck.

IF you pull the engine from a w126, it also has the electrical oil pressure hook up.

Or you could just switch out the sender with an electric one and remove the metal tube!
