Didn't you remove all the sound deadening material from your floor pans? It was stamped on that material you removed.

They'll send a lovely gift basket with fruit, cookies, croissants, a bottle of Mobil 1,a MB star keychain and Meguiars wax. j/k

They'll e-mail you the info on your car, basically the build sheet.

Built on 4/11/1983. Sold on 5/28/1983

My dealer gave me the Master Vehicle Inquiry. Technically they're not supposed to give that out.

Why not? It's your car.

Something about protecting the privacy of the previous owner(s).

This is likely the born-on date of just that component. The actual assembly date of the car will obviously be later than that. Lots of parts have date stamps on them, particularly plastic parts and metal castings. I always like decoding them to see when things were made.

I removed the material from the floor, but I thought the date stamp was on the lower angled sound material on the firewall.

I believe that's the correct location you're indicating. That's where I found mine. I've yet to look for it in my 230CE. If I'm correct about this stamp, it should be there as well.
LL, I understand that various components in the car may have similar stamps but I believe this is the actual date stamp for the car itself.

Date stamp pic.

I found the date stamp in my 230CE and interestingly enough it was on the driver's side. It's born on date is 9-22-83.

My 240D was born just 3 days before my 8th birthday. No wonder we get along so well.

Well my 300D and I share the same month for B-day's but it's hard to say for sure how well we'll get along. So far it's been a bumpy one.

There are date stamps all over my car, and none of them are the same. As posted earlier, they're probably the date the component was manufactured, not the final date of assembly on the car.

I got the build sheet from MB (via email - free) and it has a "shipment date". Mine was 14.11.84, so I think I have the very last W123 ever made .

OK, so what's the exact link that I can get my car's build dates? I've had trouble navigating the Classic Mercedes site.

Naaah, the last ones were made in January 1986.
