Odometer Repair-Grrr!

Today I fixed the odometer in my 300D, going by Dieselgiant's guide. Since I didn't have any Locktite on hand and didn't feel like spending 15 bucks for one drop, I just scored the shaft. So far so good. The grrr is because while the main odometer is now working fine, the trip odometer has stopped. I'm guessing that one little plastic gear that connects the trip odometer to the main one fell out while I was putting the numbers from the main one back in. I'll see if it turns up in my living room.

Just venting:mad:

Ok, consider your venting noted for the record.

I haven't had too much luck with doing my own odometer repairs. I fixed the one in my 240D 2 or 3 times. The first time it worked for several thousand miles. The second time only a few hundred. I finally got tired and sent it to a speedo shop to have it done properly. So I understand you frustration.

The only speedo shop in the area has already had one crack at this one. That repair lasted about 12,000 miles. They also did my other car, but I've only driven it about 5,000 since then.

If you don't mind shipping it out, I've had good luck with Speedometer Service Portland, Oregon.

I've done 3 speedo/odo repairs and I don't think I had ever had to dismantle or taken off the number wheels or gears off the unit. The unit can be repaired without taking them off.

You'll be fine. The loctite is unnecessary if you score the shaft.
