Whatever happened to lower priced diesel after winter?

They said prices of diesel go up before winter when heating companies are stocking up on fuel, which is similar to diesel. Well, ummm, winter's PRETTY MUCH over, and I paid $4.09/gallon today in Atlanta, and passed another place downtown Atlanta, at $4.29/gallon!!

Any price relief in sight? I am thinking of getting a Grease Car kit. Drive for 20 cents/gallon.

IMO, you need to stock up on Vasoline, another petroleum product as from what I can see, we will continue to have it 'put to us' by big oil from here on.............

But where's the competition?

We're in a free market society. Other companies could come in and cut the price if they could do it for less, but that ain't happenin'. So it's got to be more than just big oil trying to screw us.

Something tells me it's that nasty supply and demand thing going on.

How many oil companies are there ? How many refineries have been built in the last 30 years ? How many were put out of business by Katrina or accidental explosions ?
We are in a free market now... so the rise of China's middle class is taking much more oil, steel, lumber... think WIND.... Hydrogen cars...

Prices go up before winter because they have to make winter diesel.
Prices go up before summer because they have to make summer diesel.
Genius.......

Or, dont waste your time thinking off impractical sources of energy. And btw, hydrogen is not an energy source. It takes more energy to produce hydrogen than you get when you burn it.

The person that figures out how to do it efficiently will be a VERY rich person. It can be done, its just that nobody knows how yet.

yea but its still not a source of energy, therefore its worthless. 100% efficiency cannot be achieve, and producing hydrogen will always loose energy. Its just a way to store energy, like a battery

your not serious right?

Nevermind, you'll just say "yeah well petroleum is just stored energy from ancient sunlight so whats your point?"

Oh wait you probably think oil is abiotic

You know what, truths. Forced, I like you. Lets stay on good terms here.

Yes, anything that burns is a source of energy. Just because theres currently no efficient means of harnessing it does not make it non-viable.

It takes more energy to charge a battery than you get out by discharging through a load, yet, batteries are all around us every day in almost every electronic device we use.

It may take more energy to produce hydrogen but its far more easy to control the emissions and efficiency of a large stationary device working at a somewhat constant load than a small vehicle always moving at various loads.

The Earth's surface is covered by 70% water. As ridiculous as it may seem right now, we would be stupid to NOT consider it as a possible alternative.
