1981 300d
I am in need of some help. I own a 1981 300d mercedes and have run into two recent problems. The first being my windows. I was recently told by my local glass shop that I need to replace the window channels on my passenger side because they are rusted out. The problem is, neither him or I am able to locate window channels anywhere online. I was hoping someone might know of a place that carries them. The second problem I have run into is a knob-like object on the dash just below the clock, spedometer, etc. I was told by the owner to turn it all the way to the left when the car is first being started to help warm up the engine. However, it has recently broken off from all the turning (it is made of a plastic) and I have no idea what it is called, making it impossible to locate one online. I was hoping someone could possibly tell me the name and where to find both of these items. Thank you for your time everyone!

It's an idle adjustment knob.
Someone here may have a parts car, or you can check with your local wrecking yard for all the parts you need.

For replacing the Knob try this site:
http://www.pauldrayton.com/uploadfiles/merc/Service/W123/Main.html Have you tried asking PHIL at the top of the page "parts" concerning your part needs. And, have you ask the dealer if the window channel is available through them?

Also, once the knob has been replaced, you will find that it is much easier on the mechanism if you slightly depress the accelerator pedal before turning the knob counter-clockwise. This relieves the pressure on the cable tied to the engine side of the idle knob.
