oil cooler

Hi All:

I'm still looking for a source for an oil cooler for my 1971 220D. Do I need to find an exact replacement, or can I use any oil cooler that will fit?

Thanks,

Vernon

I think you'd have to do side by side for comparison. Knowing MB, I'd say the fittings will match. Has radiator recore/repair shop seen what you've got now?

I agree, I'd try to get your current oil cooler repaired, unless you can find a good used one. I can't find an oil cooler or an upper hose for a 1971 220D anywhere.

You could get your cooler cleaned and repaired (if needed) and have new fittings welded on so you could use braided SS lines with standard fittings.

Check out post #71 from Omegabenz. He did what I'm talking about.

Be careful, an faulty oil cooler repair killed my car.

The oil coolers are pretty fragile so I would caution you against fitting one that mounts any differently from yours. An ill fit could easily wear a hole in it and you could lose your oil and ruin your motor.

Good luck.

I would lean toward repairing yours providing you can find a good shop to do it or know what you are doing yourself.
