Gear shift seems to have shifted postions???

Ok so last week I jump in the car to go to the stop and the shifter lever seem harder than normal but goes into gear. Then I look down and it's in Neutral and not Drive, so I stick into drive and it's now in 3rd...

Did something inside the car move or the transmission??
