lock tumbler help 124
Does anyone know the next step in taking this apart? I want to switch tumblers. Rear hatch lock 124 wagon. Yes I know it's not diesel related except it is from a 300TD.

i am pretty sure you need to turn the key in the tumbler and it will come out. i found this topic because i am searching for the same info. on my '87 wagon, the key will no longer turn in the hatch tumbler. we have 3 keys, some thing with both. it used to work but recently the key just stopped turning.

I have done
The ignition and door lock. IIRC, the truck/hatch replacement lock is assembled to order and isn't 're-keyable.'
The door: Open it and find the small plastic plug in the jamb (adjacent to the lock) and remove it. You should see a tiny hex screw that holds the lock cylinder in. Remove that and then put in the key like you are unlocking the door. the cylinder should turn and pull out. You'll then see a small roll pin that holds the whole thing together. Replacing the new assembly is reverse. As for re-keying: according to a locksmith nearby, you can do them but might end up with a lock more easily picked or that jambs with the key inside. New wafers in an old cylinder isn't a good idea. He recommended the dealership. I ordered according to my VIN. I had a new ignition cylinder with a new key AND a warranty for $80.00 in four days. Even with the old key, it's as smooth as silk.

Would the same be true of an SL, like a W107?

My best guess,
for the same mid 1980s year range, it is likely.
