Question Injector Pump removal

I'm replacing a failed IP in a 1984 300TD, I have the IP loose, having removed front 3 nuts & 2 bolts holding rear bracket to block, (I could not reach rear bolt so removed these bracket bolts) is it possible to reach that rear bolt? it would seem I must loosen oil filter cannister in order to slide IP rearwards to clear 3 studs in front, any suggestions greatly appreciated

I have removed a couple w/ out removing the filter.

you do need to loosen the rear nut, as I recall, and remove the bolts holding the bracket. and the 3 on the front. then it should slide back. make sure the oil supply line is unhooked, and the 2 fuel lines.

How much does one of these IP's weigh? I may be faced with the same removal in the not too distant future to change the gasket to the block. Will also be interested to see what needs to be removed on the back end to facilitate removal of the IP, as it sure looks close!!

I've always had to remove the oil filter housing. Not sure how you would do it without removing it... there is never enough room.

I was at the junk yard and there was an 82 300SD there with the IP removed. I found the Vacuum shutoff laying on the ground by the car, I appeared that the person removed the vacuum shut off and also took off outer oil cooler line off of the oil filter housing to remove the IP. The oil filter housing was not touched.
If you are interested to see how the FSM wants you to remove the IP from a 123:

OK. That makes sense. I'll have to try the shut off valve trick next time.
