240D Shifter knob

I bought a new shift knob for my 240 and its a whole inch longer than the one that was on there. It is a meyle. Anyone had this problem? Are they all like this now. I'm going to send this one back. I havent been impressed with meyle stuff lately. I also bought a boot and its very loose compared to the one that was on there. I really need a new knob but dont want to replace it with one that is longer.

There are two different style shifter knobs for the 240D. I'm not sure of the transition date, but I think it is some time in 1980.....
Not all parts places show both kinds.

Maybe you can screw it down enough to make the top come out the same.

No, its made different. The one i bought is clearly longer. Screwed in all the way it sticks up an inch higher than the original.

If there were originally two styles of a part, MB will sometimes discontinue the old style and have only the new style available for purchase if it fits the cars that originally had the old style without trouble. Other parts such as oil caps and winshield washer fluid motors are the same way.

Well, an inch too long sucks. If you like you can measure yours and I'll measure mine and we can compare.

(that sounds a little suspicious)
