Thumbs up timing chain complete

just wanted to say, thanks to the forum for all the help

the hard boring parts is the prep work before you can start

2 people is a good idea, the chain was rolled in, in less then 60 seconds

crimping took much longer

not not not a hard job if you take your time, invest in the proper crimper tho

i did

What crimper did you use, how much and from where?

Happy to hear it's finished.

i ordered from http://www.samstagsales.com/mercedes.htm , they get it from sir tools, oddly sir tools wanted $400 for shipping to me

i was very happy with the purchase $184 + 53.90 bits sold separate

i dont think there is anyone cheaper,
a used one on ebay was about $50 cheaper, spend the extra and get a new 1, new chain every 200k for me

i also bought the proper valve feeler gauges from them, full insured postage, it shipped quickly, im in canada so i was pleased

1 feeler was missing, i e-mailed them, the sent out the feeler quickly

Did you decide to replace any of the chain rails, or do just the chain by itself?

I was wondering the same thing. Im a little leary of doing this job myself. I fear the previously mached (worn) surfaces will now be mismatched resulting in increased wear.

Would you consider putting this tool in the rental pool? Its desperately needed since the previous one disappeared.

PM me and I'll advise you of a way to do it that guarantees that you will not lose it.

i purchased the 4 rails but i am debating if i should replace them or not
and a new tensioner, gasket and spring
i might just replace the tension rail and the other on the top right

as for the 2 at the bottom...they seem to be a bit of a PITA, so im undecided
there should only be wear on the tension rail, the others dont really "touch" the chain

i am in East canada, sending it back and forth over the border is going to be a pain for fees and such, im undecided

Geographically if not really accurate you are in central Canada I believe. Go explain your border issue to customs. There should be some permanent form to file for continious back and forth movement of your item across the border. They do not want the continious hassel either.
It may be as simple as labelling it rental tool in transit. Both ways. I do not really know but easy to check as you will have a customs person locally or even try it by phone.
As Brian stated basically I imagine. If the deposit exceeds the cost of replacement how can you lose? I cannot think of another way either.
There are just too many scammers in our society both below and above the border. We have less of course. Based on having only 10 percent of the american population. I intentionally eliminated a guess on a true per capita basis.

You might consider asking for the details about that tool rental program anyways and making it available to rental in Canada only. I would be one of the interested by the way!

I have the Haznet socket for the pressure delivery valves that cost me 95$ Cdn delivered, including more than half in Customs related fees by UPS! I'd be willing to make it available for rent.

I totally understand your point about keeping your tool this side of the border.

Bye

Shouldn't the sprockets also be replaced when putting a new chain in?

This is considered standard practice in the motorcycle world.
