Unhappy Casualty of High Diesel prices.

The 1980 300sd is getting too expensive to run 19 to 20 MPG @$4.20 gal.. (all city, short trips)
I'm putting the daughter in a Honda 33+ MPG @ $3.32 gal. Cutting the fuel bill more than half.
The Benzilla is probably going on down the road
Say bye bye to baby's first Benz............

Gasoline prices will continue to rise, will likely be similar to or higher than diesel (some day). But for a sub-20mpg car, pretty much a dinosaur.

I sort of made that decision a couple weeks ago also after purchasing over a $120 in diesel in one week. I am driving the 325i and the 4cyl TD Jackaroo and giving the SDL a break.

It will soon make no difference. Gasoline is now $3.75/3.85/3.95 around here and rising. Unless you have a car with real good mileage, it won't make much difference. And personally, I'd rather be in my tank-of-a-MB than some econobox just to save a couple dollars.

I really thought I was going to park the 86sdl for a while but I decided to put the wife in the 07 530i. It has been averaging 27mpg in town, and park her 03 Honda Odyssey which only get 17 mpg in town. I have 38 pounds of air in my sdl's tires, I try to keep the rpm's under 2200 in town driving and I am getting 27mpg in it.
Going to move my daughter's furniture back to West Monroe tomorrow from Univ. of Alabama and I will of course use the Odyssey. On the interstate it gets 25mpg.

People keep telling me I should drive my 67 Beetle now cause you know they always got 40 mpg, but they really don't. I barely get 25 mpg in the Beetle. And I have nightmares of getting hit in it.

My daughter's 2000 Toyota Camry is a really good gas miser. 4 Cylinder with 4 speed automatic and in town 27 and highway 34mpg.

Who knows where gas and diesel prices will end up. With the demand for fuel in China and India, suppy and demand is hard at work here.

It's going to be expensive no matter what, so I'm sticking with something I like that feels safe.

I would surely freak out if I really thought about all of this. There's not much we an do other than walk. I'm trying to consolidate my car trips, and cut out unneccessary driving as much as I can.

I hear you Dee8go - never would have thought it would cost me $20 in gas to mow my lawn either.

Here in chicago, the price of premium is about 4.05 a gal, while diesel is 4.12. so there basically the same price now

Around here, gasoline is hovering around $3.50 and diesel is hovering around $4.20. Not even thinking about switching.

Yeah, the last time I had to fill up my lawn mower gas can it was almost $20.00. I remember not too long ago when it would have cost pocket change! I'm thinking about letting my lawn go "natural."

I pretty much gave up "hard driving" quite a while ago. I'm usually pretty light on the accelerator as it is.

My lawnmowers make their own gas and, they're all-natural too! Just watch out for the 'doormats' they leave behind!
