Odometer Problem,Anyone know?
I have an 87 TDT and all the sudden when I reset the tripometer it stopped working along with the odometer. The speedo works fine. I am not sure how one can work without the other. Does anyone know what is gone wrong in there and can it be repaired?

Did you reset it while the car was rolling?

The odometer mechanism has a high percentage of plastic parts that can and do break at inconvenient times. Additionally, the plastic gears run on steel shafts and sometimes the press-fit fails. Some folks have reported good results by re-knurling the shaft or using glue to attach the gear to the shaft.
My '87 odometer started to slip and would work sometimes and not other times. I finally took the entire speedo assembly out of the cluster and sent it in for repair, cost about $160. I used Palo Alto Speedometer here on NorCal but there are good places elsewhere, I'm sure. Another option would be your local junkyard but you would have to find a model of M-B that had the same speedo and then you'd have to set the miles to what your car has or live with the difference. Here's a link to 123 odometer repair. I would guess that 124 odometers are similar.

That's
exactly what happened to my odo. I think I reset mine while the car was rolling, don't remember exactly. Local mech. sent it off two weeks ago to be rebuilt. Don't know the cost yet, but if it takes much longer I'll press for a freeby.
