Changing fuel lines on 1998 E300DT
Hello all,
I want to replace the clear fuel lines in my 1998 E300DT, since I have the intake manifold off (changed all glow plugs). I have been searching for info on how to change those fuel lines, but I haven't found one. Most people mention the vitron (sp) o-ring as a simple preventive maintenance must do. Can anyone provide me with some info on where to start and how to prepare for this job. I don't have a fuel leak yet, I just want to prevent it. Thank you.

you can go to fryerpower.com and get the 606 oring kit and replace orings only or for $60 get new lines from the dealer. Dealer orings are buna rubber orings; viton is more fuel resistant. Nice new clear lines are nice to have to help track down bubbles in the future so if you cant see through yours get new.
Is a pretty easy job. Push white horseshoe clips closed (ie: make a ringer) to spread the shoulders of the clips holding the fuel lines down and pull them off. They can be pretty tight even when fully spread open and with new orings can also be difficult to push in and seat. When seating new line you want to be certain to feel or hear the double lick of each clip snapping down in place. The viton kit includes 6 DV, a prefilter and SOV ring too.

Yes, as Terry described it is not a hard nor costly job and worth doing every couple of years. The one line which comes off the IP which has a banjo bolt on it needs to have the 2 crush washers and o-ring replaced any time you remove the bolt so get those too. Also, replace the o-ring on the shutoff valve while you are in there.
My only tip is do ONE LINE AT A TIME because it is very easy to replace them in the wrong configuration if you remove more than one at a time...ask me how I know (I didn't do it - a so-called professional did!).

Does the kit include the tubing. What does 6 DV mean? Sorry for the confusion. I just want to get everything I need. Thank you.

By tubing I suspect you mean cloth braided return lines running between inj's?
Is not inlcuded but I think he has viton tubing avail. My return lines are OEM FWIW. DV = delivery valve orings (x6); crush washers, a special socket and most importantly knowledge are also required.

Thank you.
I will buy the kit , and it looks like I will have to buy the clear tubing as well. I will also have to buy the cloth braided tubing as well. I believe I read a good writeup on changing the the DV o-rings. I will start with the fuel lines.

I was looking at the fryerpower.com website to order the o-rings kit. There is a link that show the 606 fuel system diagram and I was trying to use it to order the clear fuel lines as well.
I am confused as there are two diagrams on there which are slightly different, and the fuel lines have a different number. For instance line 107 and 86 in the first diagram are line 95 and 83 in the second diagram. Which diagram should I use? I guess I should also look under the hood and see which diagram matches what my car has. Why the different diagrams? Thanks.

I am going to answer my own question from previous post.
The second diagram matches the fuel lines in my car. I guess the differences between the two diagrams is turbo versus non-turbo models. Where do I find the cloth braided lines? Do I buy those in bulk and then cut them to size? Thank you.

You do buy it in bulk and cut to size. The dealer has it, and I'm sure Phil does too. It's not expensive stuff even from the dealer.

Yeah, the only thing I have run into with my dealer is they sell the stuff by the meter and you need something like 1.1M to replace it all so you land up having to buy 2M and just have .9 left. IIRC, it runs about $15 a meter so it is not all that cheap.

I didn't use cloth lines on mine, I just bought about 4' of the viton line from f-power.
