Whats best method to shut down 1 cyl outa 5?
Here's the deal, my 300SD has apparently spun a bearing in #3 - slight knockin at speed and oil pressure slightly dippin from the peg, increased oil consumption too. Yet car starts and runs reasonably well. Thinkin I'll decompress #3 by pulling the glow plug so it doesnt die outright and car will be drivable to go and snag fresh engine. Or is there a better way to shut down 1 cyl outa 5??

Crack injector line going to it so there's no fuel?

There would be no fuel to the cylinder. It would go on the ground. Not what is desired, I imagine.

Yep, thats how i dx'ed the prob at #3 but dont wanna be pissing diesel fuel all over the engine. Or is there some kinda nut/bolt adaptor that can outright cap the injector tube?? That would be perfect.

Turn the line around and have it spray into a catch bottle or tee it into the return stream.

You can plumb the IP output for that cylinder directly into the return lines with a length of tubing and a "T". You'll either have to cut the hard line going to the injector or get creative adapting the fittings.
Dang, FI beat me to it!

Thanks folks, sounds like a plan and easy to do. Reckon I'll crimp the tube midsection as well so it doesnt rob too much fuel pressure from #4 and 5 by free flowing into the return line.

It must be free flowing. It is a hydraulic pump, it must have pressure relief.

With how high the pressure would be, I wouldn't want an output from the FIP going right into a return line.

There wouldn't be any pressure because there wouldn't be a load.

I would just plum it back into the return line going to the tank, unless you crack it and its not that much

And........the volume would be relatively low. No impact on the system whatsoever. |

There is extreme pressure there but its a tiny flow. Reminds me of ohms law for electricity

There is no pressure other than the head of the return line.........negligible. The flow is not very great due to the low volume in the element.
