Dang!!!! What just happened???

So I was in the car when it was off. I hit the break and the emergency brake light went off and the tach and fuel gauge dropped, the headlights are ultra dim and the windows won't operate? What happened? The fuses don't seem to be faulty? I was messing with the vacuum lines for the locking system right before it happened. I changed out a fuse to but it looks okay. Any ideas??? I can't drive at night like this....

The only thing I can think of it to check the voltage regulator. It's on the bottom of the alternator and only held on with 2 screws.

I take this to mean you hit the service brake and the brake light illuminated?? The fuel gauge dropped.........with the engine not running??

How did the headlights get turned on in a vehicle that is not running? The windows don't operate in a vehicle that has the key in the zero position.

From the information provided, I don't think anybody can possibly hazard a realistic guess..........

Actually I removed one fuse and that got everything working again. It wasn't the fuse operating that stuff though. I'll replace it tomorrow and I'm assuming all should be fine...

Wow....this is bizzare......things operating yet turning off with the car off....and lack of fuses making things work again. That car is either possessed or magic!

If the engine was off but the key was in the accessory or run position, the brake lights could have drawn enough current to affect the other electrical components, but that probably means you have a weak battery.

The reason it sounds weird is because when I turn the key all the way on....the electronics start up but not the car. I have to touch a couple wires together to turn it on. That's how it was when I got the car so if you have an answer to that issue than I'm all ears....

Possibly a problem with the ignition switch?
