How to tell which axle is bad ???

I cant discern which half shaft is making the noise. Is there an easy way to tell for sure? I have no oil leakage or split boot to make it easy...
sure would hate to replace the wrong one..

You can swap the axels from side to side, or just replace them as a pair.

What kind of noise do you have? Have you checked the rest of the drive train including the differential?

You might try jacking the car up on the frame and let the wheels hang down so there is more stress on the cv joints.
Then spin the wheels and listen for a clunck clunck maybe. When everything is cold it should be easer to hear.

Or get in a parking lot make a right hand circle, then make a left hand circle to see if you can hear which the side the noise is coming from.

That's very good advice. Keep the circles tight.

You might have a friend stick his head out each back window in turn. That may allow him to tell you the side the noise is most pronounced on. Just be careful how you do this. It would be disasterous if you took his head off before he told you the loudest side.

Jimmy, maybe it`s your motor mounts you know how it is when you hire ha cheap labor.

HMMM, I think we tightened those down.

If you wait long enough getting this done, I`ll be up there in July with my tools. while my wife and daughter do girl stuff, we can finish cleaning off the bottom of your car on the other end.

Charlie ☺

Ha! Charlie you rascal!
Next time we have to work on your car to even out the karma

I tried the circle thing, though the sound was elusive. Then I figured it out; get both wheels off the ground!

I feel kinda stupid for not thinking of this b4, but i was raising one side then the other, back and forth, and the sound kinda 'traveled.'

it sure is that right one.

thanks folks!
