Honda Accord D

I hear that Honda is coming up with a diesel Accord for 2009, a little over 50mpg highway.
After driving MB's for 34 years I am ready to move on.

Too bad, move on from MB quality to Japanese cheapness.

It could probably get 70+mpg if it wasn't choked by ridiculous emissions restrictions.

I recognize MB quality but I can not afford it, have you priced their E class CDI's lately.
Now if they ever imported their C class 220 CDI's, things will be a bit different.

I am keeping my 240D.

Oh come on, its only $55,000!

You can get the ML and R CDI's for a few grand cheaper and a Grand Cherokee CRD for around $35,000.

As if I could afford something that new - did those Jeep diesel engines get any good influence from the time that Mercedes and Chrysler were involved with each other? I love the idea of a diesel grand cherokee about the time they're getting as old as what I've got now, if the plastic was still holding together.

The Jeep GC CRD is the exact same V6 engine MB uses in their current CDI models.

Thats harsh, as a former Accord owner several times over those cars are great. Sold my last one at 250k and still running.

Both the Honda and Subaru diesels intrigue me.

Don't you imagine this things going to come in at least at 30 grand? I am going to watch with interest. Good to see though.

Honda and Toyota have been in the diesel world for a long time. I might consider the one with the best engine if I was going japanese diesel. I do not know if either one is bringing their best diesel to north america. I would check if unknown.
You are probably one of the first of a big rush. It would not hurt to put in an order pretty soon as there may be a waiting list. Fuel is probably going nowhere but upward rapidly over the long term. All forms of energy perhaps. There is going to be a horrific rush at some point.
Volkswagon could have had it all if they had done things better. Consistant quality was and will continue to be an issue with them in my opinion. I had a pretty good new one. At the same time I knew other people with quite a few problems. Too many really.
The real eventual downside is the volkswagon companies poor customer relations. Never saw or heard of worse in my lifetime. The exact difference seems to be practiced by the japanese.
The original american companies are not worth commenting on. When I see a friend with a new american big three vehicle now I really wonder why he did it. Thats pretty sad as well.

burn!

The only part I had issues with on my Jeep turbo install in my MB was the MOPAR gasket.

Have you guys ever actually driven a honda accord? It's about as interesting as operating a dishwasher, I doubt I would take one if it was free.

Same here.

However I'd probably take it to use as a winter beater if it was free.

X2

I thought the new ones looked pretty cool so I wandered down to our friendly local Honda dealer and took a V6 model for a test drive. Yawn, it was quick, and quite and I was glad when I got out. $30k for that? NFW.

I'll take a slightly used MB, thank's.

The cheapist you can get a new Accord is like $22k, and thats a pretty base car. If you want it optioned like a MB your over $30k. I can get a 3 year old CPO E320 for the same money, or a slightly older CDI.
