transmission very slow to engage forward gears...
ok so i've read through about 20 threads with people having transmission issue s and they all seem to be based around shifting issues and nothing really direct the problem i'm having.
here is my issue, my car (83 300sd) was shifting fine up untill i "fixed" a vacuum line. the other day i was checking some things under the hood and found the vac line that goes to the trans was melted against the valve cover and was closed off on both ends. No big deal i'll just cut out the bad section and put a rubber hose in. Now since i've done that the car is not wanting to get out of the hole. i can put it in gear and it'll just sit there or creep very very slowly forward. if i touch the gas it will basically go into neutral and just rev no matter how hard i hit the throttle. the only way it seems i can get it going is by rapping the throttle rapidly over and over, only then will the car start to grab and slowly take off. sometimes it will grab hard and go, other times it's got it's own mind and will come in and out of neutral. you can actually feel the trans grab then let go. so far i've tried blocking off the line again the way it was but it didn't do anything. i've checked the fluid and it doesn't look or smell burnt. i'm not 100% familiar with the the Benz terminology so please if you can dumb it down for me. i haven't had a chance to check for vacuum yet but i'm thinking that is going to be my problem... i hope. any help would be greatly appreciated. kyle here is a pic of my set up, as i couldn't find any good pics of my exact set up. ![]() ![]()
