Any reason to leave on AC belt?
My ac has been dead forever (and parts are missing, and I don't care, so it is never coming back).
I have weird squeaking/squealing goin on, and was going to remove belts, one at a time, to try to figure out if I am going to lose an alternator or PS bearing or something soon. That ac belt just sits there soaking up space. Does it eat HP too? Is there a reason (tension on the pully or something) to keep it on, or would you recommend I just remove it? As always, thanks for your input.

Cut it off. It's not required.
Belt vs. bearing. Apply some de-greaser or soapy water to each individual belt one at a time. If the squealing stops with a particular belts application then it is that belt. If the squeal does not stop after all belts have been sprayed then it might be a bearing. Dave

You can also the mechanic's stethiscope (i.e. a length of heater hose) to isolate noise.
With the car running, place one end next to your ear, and other against the suspect point. Jim
