Could I use a standard 27mm, 1/2" drive deep socket to pull fuel injectors? Or do I need to use the special Mercedes diesel injector socket?

There's also this socket,

which is a lot cheaper than the Mercedes one. And has the cut-out in fact.

I use a 1/2 drive 1-1/16" deep socket to remove injectors all the time. Buy a good quality socket and you will be fine.
