Fan clutch bolt reverse threaded? for 606 engine - 1999 e300
Does anyone know if the fan clutch bolt on the 606 engine (1999 e300td) is reverse threaded. I'm having issues breaking it loose, locked the pulley, but ended up breaking off a small nub of the water pump in doing so, and I was rotating the 8mm center fan clutch bolt clockwise (reverse threaded) direction.
Thanks! |

It's not reverse threaded.

That did it :)
Thanks for the info, that did it... amazing how easily it broke loose when I turned it the opposite way
![]() By the way the Peter Russek Manual (Pocket Mechanic) for the E-Class is wrong... it mentioned that the bolt was reverse threaded which was wrong. This will save me $300 in labor (quoted by a mechanic) since I'm knocking out the water pump too. |

Hmm, maybe it's better to have no manual at all, like me.
