Question Greasing Door Hinges with Grease Gun, W123

Good evening,

My doors dont have the same glide other W123 doors seem to. So after reading the archives I discovered the neat grease ports on the hinges. Bought a grease gun with a needle fitting at AutoZone.

Question is, what exactly is the technique for greasing the hinge?

I pushed the needle into the fitting and squeezed grease in, but the grease instantly pushed right out.

I must be doing something wrong...help me out

Thanks,
dd

Got a link to that thread? I figured it was just a roll pin to keep the hinge in place.

No its a grease port. It won't take much grease...just a little dab.

should push grease in until it squeezes out the other end. then use the doors a few days and do it again.

By golly, that is cool. It even has a check ball and everything.

Odd that they would put a grease fitting on the door hinges but none of the steering, suspension or driveshaft u-joint.

Apparently they have not figured out a way to permanently lube them!

I've seen that fitting too. I guess you need one of those needle point grease attachments to grease it.

A needle won't do it. That dimple fitting requires a thing that looks like a small ball with a hole down the center. Place the ball into the dimple, press like hell and pump in a little grease. the fitting is at the auto supply shops. Good luck

well- not really an end, but where the hinge halves meet. I do still have one door that is really sticky compared to the rest. I think I'll dig out the ol bar greaser and have at it again today.

here are a few of the proper tools- used for chainsaw bar tip greasing...
or maybe someone decided that they could use their mercedes door hinge grease gun to lube their chainsaw??

heres one-

and what I have-

Older BMW motorcycles use the same kind of grease fitting for their swing arm bearings and the push-push grease gun with the taper tip is sold for that purpose. For once I've already got the right tool, now I have an application for it. Didn't know about the grease ports, though, learn something every day! Looks like the W124 and W210 cars do not have that grease fitting. What about models older than W123?
